Thai troubles

Whilst the eyes of the world are firmly on events unfolding in Mumbai, 1867 miles away in Bangkok, another democratically elected government is facing a less violent challenge to its existence.

Protesters from the People’s Alliance for Democracy (or PAD) are continuing their blockade of Bangkok’s international airport and now also the domestic airport, Don Mueang.

Their plan seems to be to create a mood of frustration and lawlessness which will permeate the country and eventually leave the Prime Minister, Mr Somchai, with no alternative but to resign.

Whilst this trench warfare tactic may work it is by no means guaranteed and it is unclear whether it will do anyone any good, least of all those who are protesting.
