Massacre in Mumbai

Yesterday’s co-ordinated carnage, which has so far resulted in 101 casualties, raises both short-term concerns and long-term questions.

In the short term it is imperative that all the nations affected work together to ensure that the carnage is not worsened and that their respective nationals are released without harm.

The longer term question is this:

How do we tackle the causes, as well as the acts of terrorism?

India is not a new recipient of terrorism. But this attack shows an audacity never before witnessed on the Indian sub-continent and highlights the terrorists’ ability to adapt.

How we tackle that has to be one of our foremost concerns after this immediate crisis is over.
