Does the Army chief's call for snap elections mean that anything will change on the ground in Thailand?
Going on the basis of precedents, once the Army withdraws its support for the government of the day, it usually follows (and quickly) that the government falls or complies with the demands made of it.
What is interesting about the Thai situation is that the military has taken a ‘rice and noodles’ approach. They have called for snap elections but also called on the protesters to withdraw from Bangkok's international airport.
No side can therefore claim that they have the support of the military.
We must all watch this space.
