The reports coming out of Madagascar that shots have been heard at the presidential palace, cast a long shadow over the progress that that country and the continent it is part of, have made.

The wider world has effectively been watching a wrestling match which is now in the final round. We do not know who the winner will be but whatever the outcome we nor the Madagascan people can afford for democracy to be stretchered out of the ring.
